Description:

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 This role will be a member of a highly technical engineering team focused on the development and implementation of manufacturing control systems for new equipment built internally or externally and modifications to existing equipment.  This role will integrate with Engineering to perform the following:

  • Project management/leadership including working with outside vendors, tool room personnel, engineers, management, and operators to maintain CNC’s and other automated manufacturing equipment relative to current and new technology.
  • Create or modify programs & operate CNC’s and other automated manufacturing equipment requiring integrated systems knowledge.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical problems with CNCs and other automated manufacturing equipment requiring integrated systems knowledge. 

The technician will need to have the flexibility to work in other areas of the Plant based on business necessity.  The position will be required to perform multiple duties ranging from general electrical work to automated systems design and programming.  The team member must have a high electrical, mechanical and programming aptitude with good hands on ability.

    ENVIRONMENT:

  • Noise level requires hearing protection in designated areas

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a primary resource for automation related subjects – current and new technologies

  • Specify, develop, modify, install, troubleshoot and maintain automation control and data acquisition systems (hardware and software)

  • Setup, install and operate a wide range of industrial electrical and electronic equipment

  • Assumes responsibility for the completion of assigned projects within negotiated time and cost schedules. 

  • Coordinate and schedule work to meet productivity, time, and cost requirements

  • Develops electrical estimates for time, cost, and quality for projects.

     

  • Working knowledge of automated manufacturing equipment, mechanical drives, electrical/hydraulic systems, and programmable motion controllers.

  • Consults in the designs and implementation of control systems for new and/or existing machines or processes using a variety of hardware components including PLC’s, HMI’s, PC’s, motion controllers, and other industrial automation controls.

  • Responsible for writing and developing the code structure for CNC and other automated manufacturing equipment programs.

  • Applies advanced computers skills such as AutoCAD, RSLogix, RSView, Microsoft Office VBA, and Visual Studio in the development and design of both machine and product components and/or systems.

  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical problems with automation equipment such as CNC’s, robotics, or others. 

  • Troubleshoot and modify programs for all aspects of CNC routers and other automated manufacturing equipment.

  • Work closely with plant scheduling manager, IT support and production to assist in troubleshooting data download and other integrated manufacturing systems issues.

  • Assist in troubleshooting other CNCs and automation equipment throughout the company as required

     

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to work with and around moving equipment/machines

  • Must be able to read and analyze technical schematics and blueprints

  • Participate in Kaizen events and support Continuous Improvement activities

  • Regular/dependable attendance required

  • Flexibility of work hours including overtime

  • Availability for off-hour support on an as needed basis.  Work phone will be provided. 

  • Mentoring and training maintenance personnel across all technical skills and shifts

  • Will be required to work directly with OEM service technicians for both troubleshooting and development as needed

  • Ability to rotate to other positions as needed

  • Flexibility to travel

  • Other duties may be assigned

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Manufacturing experience is preferred

  • Job specific experience is preferred

  • Diploma of Technology in Electrical/Electronics or an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or related technical field preferred

  • Proficiency demonstrated in multiple technologies listed below.  Experience in other areas not listed will be considered.

  • Electrical Systems Design

  • PLC/HMI programming

  • CNC programming

  • Robotics systems programming

  • Integrated manufacturing systems programming

  • Automated Guided Vehicles

  • RFID systems integrations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift up to 90 lbs. at waist level and up to 70 lbs. at shoulder level up to an occasional basis when moving products

  • Push or pull with up to 100 lbs. of force up to an occasional basis when moving products

  • Generate up to 100 lbs. of grip strength up to an occasional basis with each hand while handling products

  • Generate up to 15 lbs. of pinch strength up to an occasional basis with each hand while handling products

  • Display average coordination with both hands on a continuous basis while performing job tasks

  • Perform elevated work on an occasional basis when handling products

  • Stoop, kneel or squat on an occasional basis when handling products

  • Reach forward and to the side on a frequent basis when handling products

  • Stand on a continuous basis and walk on a frequent basis during the course of each shift

  • Able to perform repetitive tasks up to 12 hours per day
